     Local 617 Election Notice

We would like to announce that we will be conducting a mail secret ballot election for the office of the President of Local 617. Ballots for this election are being mailed to members on November 5, 2021. Any eligible member who has not received a ballot in the mail at home by November 9th, 2021 or any member who spoils a ballot may request a replacement ballot by contacting Dyana at the LDFS Workers United office by phone (973-735-6464) or by email (dchan@ldfsunion.org), or by notifying Dyana in person (703 McCarter Hwy Newark, NJ). If you request and return a replacement ballot, only the replacement ballot will be counted.

Only the votes of members in good standing will be counted.  A member owing two or more months’ dues is not in good standing.  Such a member’s vote may be counted upon paying, before the vote count, the dues owed.

Non-members who work in union-represented workplaces, including fair share payors, may receive a ballot by (a) signing a union membership card and (b) contacting Dyana as described above.

If you have moved or changed your address, please make sure that the union has your current address by contacting Dyana at the Local 617 office by phone (973-643-8080) or in person (703 McCarter Hwy Newark, NJ).

Instructions For Mail Voting

Please read the following instructions carefully before making and mailing your ballot:

  • Mark an X or place a in the box next to the name of the candidate of your choice. Do not place your name, initials, or any other identifying information on the ballot. Ballots containing any identifying information will be voided.
  • Place your marked ballot in the small envelope labeled “Secret Ballot Envelope” and seal it. Do not write on this envelope. You must use the secret ballot enveloped to insure that ballot secrecy is maintained. Failure to use the secret ballot enveloped will result in your ballot being voided when the ballots are counted. If your ballot package does not contain a secret ballot envelope, you may obtain one by contacting Dyana by phone (973-735-6464) or by email dchan@ldfsunion.org).
  • Insert the sealed secret ballot envelope containing your marked ballot into the return envelope pre-addressed to the Election Committee and seal it. Print your name and address in the return address space on the return ballot envelope.

Your name on the return ballot will identify you as an eligible voter. The number on the return ballot envelope will be used by the Election Committee for sorting ballots and determining voter eligibility at the ballot count. Your vote will remain secret because the secret ballot envelope containing your ballot will be separated from the return ballot envelope and mixed with other secret ballot envelopes before it is opened and the ballot counted.

  • Ballot secrecy can only be preserved if you personally mark and mail your ballot. Do not allow anyone else to mark or handle your ballot or see how you vote. Do not give your ballot to anyone else for mailing. Do not hand deliver your ballot to the union office. Only ballots returned by mail to the Election Committee PO Box on the return envelope will be counted.

Important: Mail your ballot in sufficient time for it to be received at the Election Committee at 386 South St #172 Newark, NJ 07105 no later than 4:00 pm on November 30th, 2021.

Observing the Ballot Count: Members are welcome to observe the ballot count. Ballots will be counted by the Election Committee on November 30th at 703 McCarter Highway, Newark, NJ 07102 starting at 5:00 pm and continuing until counting is done.
